Developing Leaders At All Levels Of The Organization:

Leadership In Action

A dynamic global health products direct marketing corporation has grown rapidly, added new product lines, and gone public on the New York Stock Exchange.

Leadership development has not kept pace with the company’s rapid growth. To implement its ambitious strategic plan and meet current and future business objectives the company needs to develop effective leaders at every level of the organization.

The TEG Solution

TEG worked with their new Organizational Development department to launch an 18 month Leadership In Action curriculum for leaders at every level from supervisors to vice presidents. In less than two months TEG designed, developed, and delivered the first two workshops in this leadership series:

  • Coaching For Success is a two-day workshop that focuses on coaching as the single most important leadership skill for every member of the management team.
  • Managing Performance is a one-day workshop that helps leaders get the best results from their people by implementing a collaborative, two-way approach to performance management.

Since Leadership In Action was the first company-wide management training initiative in more than five years, skepticism ran high. One important goal was to avoid the “flavor of the month” syndrome by assuring immediate and continuing application of the new skills and practices. To help achieve this goal, TEG worked with our client to implement a “Master Coach” program. TEG conducted train-the-trainer workshops to provide selected Master Coaches with the skills they needed to co-facilitate the workshop sessions and then model and reinforce desired behaviors after the training.

The success of the Leadership In Action program far exceeded everyone’s expectations and made believers out of even our toughest critics. Over 200 supervisors, managers, and senior leaders attended both programs. Collaborative working relationships and improved cross-functional communication have led to increased teamwork and customer focus. And there is a new excitement, energy, and engagement around creating and sustaining a coaching culture throughout the organization.
