Proactively Managing Your Own Career:

Promoting Yourself As A Free Agent

High performing wireless sales representatives have an opportunity to acquire new skills and expand their influence by taking a one-year rotational assignment as Regional Development Specialists (RDSs) who are responsible for coaching and developing other sales reps in the organization. As these rotational assignments ended, the company wanted a way to help the RDSs recommit themselves to their previous sales positions.

The TEG Solution

Building on the strategies and skills outlined in Kerry's Free Agents book, we designed, developed, and trained a workshop program that provides the RDSs with the skills and attitudes they need to achieve their professional goals within their organization. Topics include:

Working in your job and on your job. Taking initiative and responsibility to manage your job and your career.

Managing your portfolio of professional assets. Redefining yourself in terms of the additional skills, special knowledge, and professional relationships you developed in your rotational assignment.

Positioning yourself for success. Presenting yourself professionally with powerful statements of accomplishment, a persuasive resume, and strong supplemental materials. Articulating your capabilities and goals in a concise and compelling "elevator speech."

Building your network. Initiating career development coaching conversations with prospective mentors.

In their rotational assignments, the RDSs gain valuable experience that can prepare them to take on positions of greater responsibility. Now they can draw on the new skills, knowledge, and relationships they've developed to help them succeed as they return to their sales assignments. They can motivate themselves to higher levels of performance. And our client is able to protect the investment they've made and retain these high performers.
